Clients of Brookhaven Retreat visited the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center July 11

Brookhaven Retreat® LLC, a unique residential treatment facility exclusively for women with emotional and mental health challenges, and/or substance abuse issues recently hosted a therapeutic outing to the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center in Townsend, TN July 11.

Clients of Brookhaven Retreat, which helps women overcome depression, trauma, anxiety, personality disorders, and substance dependence, among other diagnoses, participated in a celebration of the cultural heritage of East Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountain region. Especially if they weren’t already familiar with these exquisite surroundings, clients had the opportunity to gather interesting information about the diverse cultures of Townsend and Tuckaleechee Cove. The celebration included gallery exhibits, educational programs and demonstrations.

As part of The Lily Program®, a 90-day program for women offered exclusively at Brookhaven Retreat, clients go out on diverse therapeutic recreational trips as an opportunity to receive the beauty and stimulation of the world around them outside the Seymour Tennessee-based facility.

Brookhaven Retreat’s founder Jacqueline Dawes, says, “Although there is much work to be done inside our facility to promote healing, we must also continue to be out and about since after the program commences clients must function in the real world.”

Other recent therapeutic recreational outings have included visits to the University of Tennessee Botanical Gardens, Knoxville’s Market Square Farmer’s Market, and the Tuckaleechee Caverns.

Dawes, who chose for Brookhaven Retreat to be nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, adds, “There’s nothing quite like the with the natural surroundings of this area. I believed the sights, botanical aromas and clean air of the mountains would be an ideal location, where healing would be fully supported.”
