Dr. Tony DuBose Visits Brookhaven Retreat

Dr. Tony DuBose, Director of Training at Behavioral Tech, LLC., visited Brookhaven Retreat on April 10, 2013 in order to assist the residential treatment facility with planning the next phase of its Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training efforts.

In September 2012, Brookhaven Retreat completed a three-day strategic planning workshop with Behavioral Tech. Offered to all staff, the seminar provided additional skills training and strategic planning for refining the implementation of DBT in Brookhaven Retreat’s unique treatment setting. Once fully implemented, Brookhaven Retreat’s DBT program will help women meet their goals through the use of core DBT skills related to mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.

Dr. DuBose, a recognized expert in DBT, spent the day touring Brookhaven Retreat’s program. He met with Jacqueline Dawes, owner and founder of Brookhaven Retreat, to begin planning a one-year implementation process that will ensure all staff have the necessary skills required to move onward with training.

As part of this one-year initial training program, Brookhaven Retreat and Behavioral Tech will work together to implement separate training programs for clinical care and direct care staff. Clinical staff will receive the training necessary to implement the five functions of a comprehensive DBT program, while direct care staff will be trained to meet those functions relevant to individual roles.

This visit is part of Brookhaven Retreat’s ongoing efforts to provide the very best quality of care for women with mental health and substance abuse issues. This training will ultimately ensure that all women who come to Brookhaven Retreat learn the fundamental skills taught in DBT, strengthen those skills in therapy, and master them upon discharge for successful, lifelong mental health.
