Vacationing With Less Stress And More Fun

Saturday, 12 July 2014 00:00  by Emily S.

Vacations can be more stressful than actually working. The stress of figuring out small details such as activities, transportation and food can cause more anxiety than a normal day at work. Following these simple tips can help you reap the benefits of a true vacation feeling energized and less stressed.

  1. Plan ahead of time. Planning a vacation, especially to a new destination, is more than just booking a hotel and a flight. To lessen anxiety and stress associated with being in a new place, research the best restaurants, activities and the general cost ahead of time. That way there are no surprises or disappointments.
  2. Travel away from home. Stay-home vacations can be relaxing, but the majority of people report greater satisfaction from vacationing away from home.
  3. Join a tour. New places can be overwhelming, especially if you aren’t used to the culture. Tourist traps and long lines can overwhelm vacationers. Hiring a tour guide or joining a group tour can take you off the beaten path to unique spots loved by locals, and are far less busy. Tours can help you become familiar with the culture safely and reduce anxiety and stress.
  4. Take photos. Having photos and videos help document the fun memories so that you can reminisce and share with others. Just be sure to remain mindful of your experience and don’t get too stressed over capturing the perfect photo.
  5. Make arriving home easy. One thing about vacations we all have to deal with is the return home, and there is nothing worse than coming home to a messy home and tons of work assignments to finish. Be sure to plan ahead so you can get these tasks done before your trip. This will help you enjoy your time off more and not dread the return home.
  6. Vacations are an important part of self-care. Leaving the high-stress atmosphere of work and busy life behind can rejuvenate your emotional, mental and physical wellness. Following these simple suggestions can set you up for a vacation that is less stress and more fun!
